Katsina emir orders surveillance on alien faces
From MU’AWUYA B. IDRIS, Katsina
AS part of the effort to avert farmers-Fulani clash, Katsina Emirate Council has directed district heads to report insurgence of alien Fulani herdsmen into the state.
The directive followed recent clash between farmers and Fulani in Batsari which claimed one live and injured many others.
In his Sallah message to the people, the Emir, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, advised Fulani to stop encroaching farmlands to avoid any clash.
Alhaji Usman warned farmers and Fulani to avoid taking laws into their hand, advising that any problem raised between them should be resolved through dialogue.
He also appealed to people of the state to continue to live in peace with one another.
Our correspondent report that Governor Ibrahim Shema and his deputy, Umar Damari were absent at Kangiwa Square to pay traditional homage to the Emir.
Only a handful of top government officials led by Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Sayyadi were at the Kangiwa Square.
Meanwhile, scarcity of water has forced many Muslims in Katsina to celebrate Sallah on a low key note.
Many Muslims were forced to search for water as taps were dried up for the past two weeks.
It was gathered that even the water vendors that use to supplement supply of water, were not available, a situation which led to hike in prices of gallons of water.
Our correspondent report that 25 litres of water is now being sold between N30 to N40, depending on the area.
Katsina state government recently announced that Ajiwa Water Works which supply water to metropolitan area had encountered some problems.
