Kebbi disburses N2.2bn to LGs
Kebbi state government has disbursed more than N2.2 billion as monthly statutory allocations to the 21 local government councils in the state.
The commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Salihu Aliero, disclosed this at a meeting of the State-Local Government Joint Account, held in Birnin Kebbi.
He said more than N2.6 billion was realised by the state from federal allocation, Value Added Tax (VAT), share of excess crude revenue and Internally Generated Revenue.
According to him, N346 million was deducted from the amount in accordance with the provisions of the law, leaving a balance of N2.29 billion which was paid to the councils.
Giving a breakdown of how the N346 million was utilised, the commissioner said N279.9 million was earmarked for the payment of primary school teachers and N12.9 million for the training of local government staff.
According to him, N19.4 million of the amount is for the payment of pensions to retired primary school teachers and N36 million for the Emirate Councils.
Others, he said, included N14.5 million for bank charges and N3.2 million for social security welfare fund.
On the net disbursement to the 21 councils, Aliero stated that Bagudo council got the highest amount of N145.3 million, followed by Danko/Wasagu with N145.2 million, while Aliero Local Government Area got the least amount of N85 million.
