KNSG committed to actualizing KFTZ
By SALISU MARAFA
KANO state acting governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo has reaffirmed the state government’s support toward the actualization of Kano Free Trade Zone (KFTZ) especially in the area of water supply.
He stated this Wednesday when he paid an inspection visit to the zone located at Fanisau in Ungogo Local government area.
He said considering the nature of commercial activities in the state, government would greatly benefit from the zone, saying it would not relent in giving all necessary attention to the zone at all cost.
According to him, already, government has been providing an enabling environment for foreign investors since its inception in view of the position of the state as the commercial nerve centre of the country.
Gwarzo who expressed appreciation with the large area allocated for the zone urged the management to embark on sensitization and awareness campaign on its benefits and advantages to people when completed.
“There is the need for massive sensitization campaign about the zone’s activities because people may need to know more about the benefits to be derived from the zone most particularly in improving their businesses,” Alhaji Gwarzo further stated.
In his remark, the managing director of the zone, Alhaji Kabiru Tanko Malumfashi thanked the acting governor for the visit, which he said would encourage them.
He said KFTZ is one of the three federal government-owned free zones in Nigeria that are fully functioning except that of Kano.
“One major challenge to KFTZ is the provision of water support-presently, the zone has only one Solar Panel water boreholes which will not be sufficient for industrial purposes,” Malumfashi explained.
He added that presently, the zone has licensed 33 potential investors to operate as free-zone enterprises where already some have started developing their land.
Daily Triumph learnt that the zone recorded tremendous achievements through the provision of internal road network, factory buildings for lease to investors, banking hall as well as police post, immigration and customs posts for the smooth take-off of the zone.
