The state acting governor, Engr. Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo stated this yesterday during the final stakeholders workshop of the European Union (EU) and Integrated Water Resources Management Project, held at Royal Tropica Hotel, Kano.
Alhaji Gwarzo said the workshop was aimed at advocating an approach to water resources management linking social and economic development with the protection of natural eco-system.
He said humanbeings have the right to have access to clean water and sanitation at an affordable price and the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) creates awareness of the importance of water among policy makers and the general public.
The acting governor hoped the decision taken after the workshop would provide opportunities for IWRM particularly in the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority’s jurisdiction.
He enjoined the participants to put in their best and come up with meaningful discussions that will take IWRM forward in the Basin for the benefit of the teeming population.
Earlier, the administrative secretary of the basin, Dr. Hassan Haruna, had said the workshop was organized to discuss achievements made on integrated water resources management particularly with the benefiting communities.
Dr. Haruna pointed out that the EU-IWRM project is a component of water supply and sanitation sector reform programme for effective integrated water resources management.
