KNSG signs N5bn dam, irrigation contract
KANO state government has signed a N4,802,793,680.55 contract for the rehabilitation of Magaga Dam and Development of 200 hectares (500 acres) for irrigation at Gude, in Kabo Local Government Area of the state.
The contract was signed between the state commissioner of agriculture, Malam Musa Sulaiman Shanono on behalf of the state government and C.G.C Nigeria Limited.
The contract for the dam rehabilitation and development of the irrigation area is to be completed in 12 months.
While signing the contract, the commissioner appealed to the construction company to strictly abide by the conditions of the contract and the expected completion period.
He stated that the rehabilitation of Magaga Dam and the development of 200 hectares for production of crops is part of the effort of Malam (Dr.) Ibrahim Shekarau’s administration to boost food and cash crop production in the state.
It will also provide employment opportunities to the teeming population of the state especially the rural youth.
Malam Shanono therefore appealed to farmers living around the Dam area to cooperate with the contractor in order to complete the work as scheduled.
In his response, the Managing Director of C.G.C Nigeria Limited, Mr. Lee Ligong Gang assured the state government that his company will do its best in completing the work on schedule.
He also expressed the company’s gratitude to the state government for awarding the contract to his company.
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director, KNARDA, Malam Muhammad Umar Kura had thanked the state government for making the bold decision to rehabilitate the dam and develop the irrigation area.
He stated that since the dam was constructed, it had not been properly utilized for irrigation.
Malam Kura therefore thanked the state government for the project as it would provide farmers with opportunity to grow food and cash crops thereby increasing their economic well-being and revenue base of the state.
