Lawmakers okeys conversion of Dorayi psychiatric hospital
By USMAN GWADABE
KANO state lawmakers have agreed with the idea by the state government to convert Dorayi psychiatric Hospital to Maternity and Pediatric hospital situated in Gwale local government area.
This followed a motion tabled to that effect for adaptation before the Honourable members by Representative of Gwale constituency, Hon. Umar A. Jibril (ANPP), revealing that the agitation is in fulfildment of the yearnings of the electorate as they are in urgent need of such hospital in their vicinity.
Hon. Jibril confirmed that the hospital is now vacant as no psychiatric service is being run, lamenting that the area has now turned to a hideout for reptilizes.
“Therefore, if the hospital is converted into Maternity and Pediatric Hospital it will surely save the state from mortality cases”, the legislator hinted that Dorayi being one of the highly populated areas, the presence of the hospital there will cater for the need of a great number of women and children.
He disclosed that some women lost their lives as a result of prolonged labour which mostly occurs due to the long distance before reaching hospital.
Kura/Garun Malam representative, Hon. Muktar Muhammad Chiromawa (PDP), after supporting the motion, objected that the Psychiatric Hospital should be relocated to another area even if it is his constituency, noting that the state needs additional hospital like it.
However Hon. Isa Musa Kumurya (ANPP,Bunkure) dissatisfied with the Hon. Chiromawa’s statement said that there are over three psychiatric hospitals in the state, pointing out that Yadakunya Hospital is one of them but only that it has been neglected.
Contributing on the issue, Hon. Sale Ahmad Marke (ANPP, Dawakin Tofa) opined that converting the hospital to Maternity and Pediatrics would assist in curbing the six child killer diseases as well as reduce mortality cases in the council area and the state in general.
Meanwhile, Speaker Abdul’aziz Garba Gafasa has led other legislators to Makoda local government council to condole with the family of Bunun Kano, and district head of the area, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Umar Dikko who died Tuesday.
Gafasa prayed to Allah Almighty to forgive the deceased and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi.
