NCWS honours 86 members
The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), in Abuja, honoured 86 people with various awards for contributing to the promotion of women's rights.
The recipients came from various fields of endeavour, includingsome state governors wives.
The National President of the NCWS, Hajiya Ramatu Usman, said the awardees were picked ``purely on merit, in recognition of their contribution to women and children issues''.
Hajiya Zainab Nyako, the First Lady of Adamawa, an awardee, said ``it was a pleasant surprise and a challenge to do more for the less privileged'.
``Don't lose hope, work hard, get skills, acquire education so as not to be a `pushover'in life,'' Nyako charged women.
Dr Felicia Ojeleye, Kwara state commissioner for commerce and cooperatives, expressed happiness for being recognised for her ``little contributions''.
She explained that Nigeria was now ripe to have a female president, adding that unity of purpose among women would enhance attainment of the goal.
``Unity and togetherness is important, women are coordinated, articulate and home managers.
We can achieve that goal once we put our mind to it,'' Ojeleye said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the second day of the national conference recorded a rowdy session as it was nearly marred by clashes in the programme.
