NDLEA arrests suspect with cocaine in compact disc
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said yesterday it had arrested a suspected drug trafficker who allegedly concealed 2.4kg of cocaine in compact discs.
NDLEA said in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, that the suspect, Helen Monye-Cole (48), wanted to smuggle the illicit drug to London.
It said she was nabbed on Jan. 30 at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, adding that the agency arrested another suspect Abuchi Nnadebe (27), who allegedly ingested 50 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.433kg.
It said the suspect was also arrested at the MMIA while returning from Brazil.
``The suspect was detected by scanning machine on his way from Brazil,’’ the statement said.
It quoted the NDLEA Airport Commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, as saying that the seizures took place during routine checks at the baggage desk at the airport.
The statement also quoted the NDLEA Chairman, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, as describing the concealment on discs as ‘novel’.
“The results we are getting are strong indication that security checks are yielding positive results.
``Though the stratagem is novel, its detection will surely send a warning signal to drug barons,” the statement quoted Giade as saying.
