Zamfara loses N3.5bn to corruption in education sector -NANS alleges

Zamfara state government looses N3.5 billion annually due to corrupt practices in the state public schools, the Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Suleman Mahmud (T.J) has observed.
He stated this in Gusau at a press conference last weekend, alleging that corruption has taken over education in Zamfara state both inform and content from one school to another by the irresponsibility on the part of those charged with the responsibility of overseeing education in the state.
Comrade Mahmoud, however, called on the state government to quickly address the corruption practices failure of which, NANS will invite the EFCC and ICPC to launch an investigation in some schools in order to arrest the culprits.
According to him, “as leaders and representatives of students, we cannot help but weep when we look on the happenings in Zamfara state .
The Vice President noted that Zamfara state” is critically collapsing state interms of Education as corruption has eaten away the sector ranging from extortion, diversion of feeding and the illegal registration of external students among others.
His words:” We fear that if the situation is allowed to go unchecked, things will continue to deteriorate.
Shedding more light on the conference, the secretary general Zone “A” Comrade Isah Jabbi Usman said corruption is the cause of under development everybody should strive to eliminate its perpetration in the society.
The NANS, however, urged the Principal of Unity School Kotorkoshi Hajiya Hauwau Kulu Na’ala to resign or face the wrath of the association since her redeployment was being put in jeopardy.
The association also condemned the redeployment of Engr. Kabiru Marafa to ministry of water resources.
Some of the decisions taken during the conference include giving 14 days ultimatum to Zamfara state government to ascend to their demands or the association take necessary actions.
