Niger chapter of JUSUN complies with nationwide strike

The Niger chapter of Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on Monday embarked on a strike as directed by its National Executive Council (NEC).

The union called its members out on strike over its demand for the implementation of a new salary structure for the workers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal High Court, the State High Court, Magistrates' and Sharia courts were shut and members of the union executive in Niger moved round to ensure compliance with the directive.

A communiqué issued at the union's National Executive Council meeting held at Mararaba, Nasarawa State, on Oct 24, on the resumption of the strike was placed at the gates of the courts.

''NEC in council condemned the memorandum of understanding executed between the union and the Federal Government representatives in which there was no specific time frame given for the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJUSS) at the Federal level.

``NEC in council also frowned at the inability of the state governors to implement the CONJUSS in their respective states, in spite of the 14 days ultimatum given to them by the union to implement it or face industrial action,'' the communiqué said.
