NOA wants politicians to cooperate for hitch-free local elections
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on politicians and their followers in Delta to co- operate with the state electoral commission for a hitch-free local council polls.
The NOA Director in Delta, Mrs Ngozi Oladipo, made the call today at an interactive session with leaders of political parties in the state.
The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) has scheduled May 10, for the conduct of local government elections in no fewer than 250 electoral wards in the state.
Oladipo said NOA initiated the forum to deliberate on how to assist DSIEC and security agents in organising a successful election.
She appealed to candidates and their supporters to ``campaign without causing tension because politics is not a do or die affair''.
Oladipo also expressed the hope that DSIEC would conduct credible and acceptable grassroots level elections in Delta.
In his remarks, the state PDP Chairman, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, appealed to all political parties to ensure a peaceful election.
He also appealed to DSIEC to provide a level playing field to ensure that no politicians were aggrieved over the outcome of the election.
Other politicians, who spoke at the occasion expressed fears over DSIEC's ability to conduct the election.
They also expressed their readiness for the election and appealed to DSIEC to make available electoral materials for the polls on time.
