Non refund of loans stalls NAPEP’s activities in Katsina

THE refusal of some highly placed politician to refund loan provided to them by NAPEP in Katsina has stalled activities of the programme.
Daily Triumph learnt some politician under micro finance credit scheme obtained loan but all effort to recover the loan proved abortive.
The micro-finance credit scheme was launched by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007 amounting to about N400 million.
Sources closed to NAPEP in Katsina told Daily Triumph that some beneficiaries of the loan consider the loan as part of their 2007 campaign share not a loan which is to be refunded.
The source explained that despite several remainders and letters the beneficiaries have refused to respond positively.
“The attitude of these politician has frustrated the success of the scheme” the sources explained.
According to the sources, each of these politician collected N3 million to N5 million as loan, and since the launching of the scheme, they disappeared.
Meanwhile, NAPEP in Katsina has engaged the services of legal practitioners to recover the loan.
The state coordinator of NAPEP, Alhaji Gambo Abdulkadir Rimi said the measure become necessary due to refusal of beneficiaries to refund loan gave to them.
