Police Zone 1 command soccer tourney gets date

IN compliance with the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro’s directives on zonal police competition nationwide, Kano Zone 1 Command has fixed May 23-25 toward the successful hosting of its soccer event.
Daily Triumph Sports gathered that the Zone 1 Command under the leadership of Alhaji Ganiyu Dawodu had mapped out plans toward the successful hosting of the championship.
According to the source, the Zone 1 Command had already submitted the letter of request for financial assistance to the state’s sports-loving governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, to bankroll the competition.
The source further revealed that Katsina, Jigawa and the host state, Kano are expected to compete in the competition.
‘’We are requesting the state government to assist the command financially in order to organise a colourful competition. We know the state government is keen to develop and promote various sporting activities, especially football game with a view to ensuring the overall development of sports not only in the state but the country at large,’’ the source said.
The source also hinted that the command will use Bompai Police play ground as well as the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano for the closing ceremony.
The source, however, called on the people of the state to give the organisers their maximum support and cooperation for the interest of peace and unity.
The source then commmended the state government for its unflinching support to the Nigerian Police Force and urged it to sustain the tempo toward the overall development of the state.
Meanwhile, Kano state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, is expected to be the special guest of honour at the closing ceremony while the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Kano Zone 1 Command, Alhaji Ganiyu Dawodu is expected to be the chief host.
Other eminent personalities expected include the Special Adviser to Kano state Governor on Sports Development, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Mu’azu Kawu, the state’s director of sports, Alhaji Ibrahim Abba and the state’s commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muhammad Yesufu.
