Police arrest 35, recover weapons in Jos
The Police have arrested 35 suspects, while several weapons have been recovered following the clash which occurred in Jos on Sunday, the Plateau Police Commissioner, Mr Greg Anyating has announced.
He said the crisis started when some youths attacked worshippers at St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Nasawara Gwom, adding that the city was now calm.
He said his men were deployed into the area alongside the re-enforcement from neighbouring states to ensure that the situation did not get out of control.
He said there were no casualties for now, but the police were compiling the list of destructions.
He dismissed as fabrication, the figure being bandied by international media.
Anyating urged journalists to co-operate with the police so that the crisis would be brought to an end, but observed that some people were bent in disrupting the prevailing peace in the area.
He said efforts were being made to ensure return of peace.
