Successorship, fundamental to Kano ANPP’s progress--- Hon Ayuba
By MAJE T. SANUSI, Political Editor
THE issue of successorship is critical to the progress of ANPP and Kano, as such, all well-meaning stakeholders should back Malam Ibrahim Shekarau to pick a reliable candidate to succeed him.
The governor's Special Assistant in Dambatta local government, Alhaji Badamasi Ayuba, made the plea during a chat with Daily Triumph over the weekend.
Ayuba who aspired for the House of Representatives to represent Dambatta and Makoda Federal Constituency during the 2007 polls, described Malam Shekarau as the only genuine overall leader for the ANPP, not only in Kano but in Nigeria as a whole.
Ayuba believes that, with Governor Shekarau at the helm of affairs, the ANPP's problem, regarding the choice for a successor in Kano could be over, but he quickly appealed for all hands to be on deck to enable him place the party on proper track.
According to him, ANPP's strength and popularity in Kano have reached highest pinacles, saying, Kano people being the most enlightened in Nigeria's political circle, should not toy with the partys' chances of serving as a role-model to other states of the federation.
Since Malam Shekarau has secured the ANPP's mandate to pick its gubernatorial candidate, the governor now has the free will to perform, not only as Chief Security Office of Kano, but also as a leading helman for the party", he explained, stressing that Malam Shekarau is similarly at liberty to unite and even reconcile between aggrieved party men and women."
The Shekarau loyalist also congratulated the governor on his new Sardaunan Kano title, saying the conferment on Malam Shekarau has been well-deserved in view of his commitments towards moving Kano and its teeming populace forward.
He similarly viewed the Sardauna title as an added advantage to Malam Shekarau's charisma, integrity and personality as the people’s governor and therefore, appealed to him not to relent in his untiring efforts towards delivering excellent services to Kano people and even beyond.
On the swearing of ANPP executive, Alhaji Ayuba believed that the party members in Kano have acted wisely by heralding Sani Hashim's come back, saying that he and other executive members, had performed greatly during their first tenure.
He acknowledged their re-election with great satisfaction, but cautioned that they have to tighten their belt for the challenges ahead of them, reminding them of the vigorous gubernatorial contest coming up in 2011.
