Kogi govt to pay TSS, wants teachers back in schools
The Kogi state government is set to implement the new teachers' salary structure (TSS) and effect immediate payment of promotion arrears.
Dr. Tom Ohikere, the commissioner for information, said this in Lokoja at a news briefing on the current strike embarked upon by teachers.
Ohikere urged the teachers to call off their strike and assured them that the state government would implement the salary scheme.
He said the state government had approved the implementation of the 2008 promotion exercise for teachers with the immediate payment of the arrears for January and February.
According to him, the state will immediately promote teachers on grade level 15 to grade level 16, stressing, however, that there will be a screening exercise for them.
The commissioner appealed to the NUT to call off the ongoing strike in the interest of the future of the younger ones.
Ohikere said as soon as the strike was called off, the government would take necessary steps to meet the teachers’ demands.
