Malumfashi flood disaster: KTSG sets up damage assessment
committee

KATSINA state government has set up a six-member committee to
assess damages caused by flood disaster in Malumfashi local
government council.
The committee is headed by the executive director, State Relief
Agency, Alhaji Suleman Rawayau.
The state deputy governor, Alhaji Sirajo Umar Damari, revealed
this while leading a team on a sympathy visit to the people
affected by the disaster.
Our correspondent reports that hundreds of people affected by
the disaster are now taking refuge at their neighbours’ houses,
while many others have left the area in search of accommodation.
A visit to the areas showed that the affected people lost their
belongings worth millions of Naira.
Alhaji Damari explained that government was touched by the
disaster and pledged that assistance will be given to the
affected people.
He described the disaster as an act of God and directed the
council to provide immediate assistance to the victims.
In a related development, Katsina state House of Assembly has
directed its Committee on Habitat to assess the damage caused by
the Malumfashi flood disaster.
Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ya’u Umar Gwajo Gwajo gave the
committee two weeks within which to submit its report.
Earlier, a member from Kafur local council area, Alhaji Kabir
Barau had said the flood has rendered many people homeless.
