Nafisa Yuguda secures release of 89 prisoners

The wife of Bauchi state governor, Hajia Nafisa Isa Yuguda has secured the release of 89 detainees serving various terms over minor offences without trial for many months /years at Bauchi, Ningi, Misau, Jama’are and Azare prisons.
Hajia Nafisa Yuguda who is operating under an NGO known as Family Health Care and Local Empowerment Foundation said the project was aimed at assisting the less privilege families with emphasise on the welfare and empowerment of prisoners.
Yuguda added that the Foundation is based in Bauchi but would extend it services across the country.
The wife of the state governor stated that the only way to decongest prisons is through the collaborative efforts of government , non governmental organizations, private sector as well as well-meaning individuals.
She suggested that modalities should be worked out to free prisoners whose offences are not serious with the view to providing them jobs to enable them to contribute their quarter to the development of the society.
The Bauchi state Controller of prisons, Alhaji Mohammed Nata’ala said the gesture by the governor’s wife would help to decongest the prisons and make the freed inmates to become useful members of the society.
Hajia Nafisa also paid  courtesy visits to the Emirs of Ningi, Misau, Jama’are and Katagum emirate councils where she solicited the blessings and support of the royal fathers.
The emirs described the gesture as the first of its kind and promised to support her to succeed.The freed inmates received transportation money, blankets, and food items from the governor’swife.
