Police release 4 ex-PLASIEC commissioners on bail
The police in Plateau Friday said that it had released four
former commissioners of the dissolved Plateau State Independent
Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) on bail.
The four ex-commissioners had been in police custody for over
one week in connection with the alleged disappearance of a vital
document.
The state's Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Bala
Kassim, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos that the
four were released on bail on Thursday.
Kassim, however, did not give details on when the case would
come up in court.
NAN recalls that Gov. Jonah Jang dismissed the former PLASIEC
chairman, Mr. Jefferson Mejei, in January, shortly before the
botched March 2008 local government elections.
Jang later reconstituted the commission in March and appointed
Mr. Gabriel Zi as its chairman.
