Way out of Plateau crisis, by Khalil
By ALIYU UMAR & GHALI M. KASSIM
A PROMINENET Islamic scholar in Kano state, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, has said that the only way out of the recurring civil strife in Plateau state is to tackle three things namely, true investigation, punishing the culprits and resettlement of the affected communities.
Reacting to the recent Jos crisis in an interview with Daily Triumph, the Islamic scholar who is also the chairman, Kano state Council of Ulama of Nigeria, said that true investigation into the crises will assist greatly in identifying the real cause of the civil unrest.
According to him, the second step is to ensure the rule of law by punishing those found guilty, no matter how highly placed in the society, while the re-arrangement of settlements will give peace a chance as majority of the settlers should be allowed to live together in one place with a leader who will rule over them.
“For instance, Hausa or Muslims should be given a place where they would settle in majority population where a leader can be appointed to oversee their affairs instead of the mixed-up settlements which attract hatred,” he said.
He condemned statement made by Governor Jang that the Hausa or anybody who wants to leave the state can do so as the nation allows him to settle at any place he wishes, adding that the statement at this present period is very unfortunate.
