We’ll continue to support SWAN... Shekarau assures
By NAJIB LAWAN DANBAZAU
KANO state government will continue to support programmes embarked upon by the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) just as the government would want journalists in the state to be God-fearing in their reportage of events in the state.
Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano made the declaration when he hosted executives of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Kano yesterday.
Malam Shekarau who charged the executives to be God-fearing in their conducts and handling of the association’s affairs, noted that the state government’s doors are open to the body whenever it has a programme to execute.
The sports loving governor also urged the body to embark on training and re-training of its members through seminars and workshops as a way of updating their knowledge in its chosen field.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the state chapter, Mr. Mike Oboh while applauding the efforts of the state government in sports development, explained the need for provision of more sporting facilities in schools and local councils in the state.
Mr. Oboh appealed to the state government to continue its support to sporting bodies in the state.
The chairman also appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the association in areas of provision of a vehicle, hosting of the national delegates conference as well as equipping its secretariat.
