Police job can take you to heaven or hell -- AIG
Mr Muhammad Yesufu, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), has observed that the role played by police personnel in crime control and maintenance of law and order, can take them either to heaven or hell.
``You have good opportunity of going to heaven, if you do justice. You can equally go to hell, if you do injustice to all manners of people,’’ he said.
Yesufu was addressing police personnel on Thursday in Ibadan after a familiarisation tour of divisions under the Oyo State Police Command.
``The job of a police officer is very tasking, so you should all try to perform your duties according to the ethincs of your profession,’’ he said.
According to him, salary of police personnel has been greatly improved, adding: ``To whom much is given, much is expected.’’
The AIG, however, noted with regret that in spite of the improved welfare package of police personnel, there were still some bad eggs within the force, who he said, had continued to tarnish the immage of the profession.
He advised policemen to shun all vices that had painted the ``noble profession black''.
``You should refrain from corruption, highhandedness and bad behaviour.
You have a noble profession, so project yourselves as good ambassadors of the profession, and do not go about begging or taking bribe,’’ he added.
Responding to a question, Yesufu said a new dress code for police personnel would soon be put in place.
He explained that the new uniform had yet to go round, because ``it is very costly to maintain,'' and was still undergoing neccessary test.
