Why Gov Nyako was re-elected, by SA women affairs
By IBRAHIM A. MUHAMMAD
THE re-election of Murtala Nyako, a.k.a Baba Mangoro, as governor of Adamawa state, on the platform of PDP has clearly shown the massive support he enjoys from people of the state.
Former Nyako’s Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Hajiya Ruqayyat Isma’il stated this, while fielding journalists’s questions in Kano.
Hajiya Isma’il belives that Nyako’s re-election was as the result of tremendous achievements recorded by the Adamawa government during its only eight months in office.
According to the former adviser, Adamawa people had enjoyed so much from the PDP government’s development programmes, under Murtala Nyako, to the extent that they could not risk its slipping away.
She lamented that the eight years of former Governor Boni Haruna was nothing to write home about, as it had brought about untold harship and suffering, especially among the less-privileged people of the state.
According to the Women Adviser, people got fed-up with Haruna’s eight years of suffering and wisely used their voting power to re-elect Governor Nyako, having gained so much from his eight-month rule.
Hajiya Isma’ila expressed satisfaction with the last Saturday’s conduct of election, describing it as free and fair, condering the voters’ turn out and the peaceful manner in which it was carried out.
The Special Adviser was delighted that Governor Nyako’s eight months administration was the most liberal which emphasized women participation in governance.
She said many women were appointed into the state government’s cabinet, adding that, the government had also accorded priority to healthcare delivery, where pregnant women enjoyed a lot of medical facilities to ease their problems.
Accordingly, the Special Adviser stated that youths, children and married women had benefited immensely from the numerous skills acquisition programmes organized at most women centres in various local government areas of the state.
She said, in her capacity as Special Adviser on Women Affairs, her commission had initiated lots of programmes on capacity development, aimed at enhancing women participation to the development of their own areas.
“Women in Adamawa state had, as a result of many trainings, workshops and seminars, organized by her commission, benefited from soft loans and other fringe benefits to alleviate their suffering and to make them self-reliant”, urging people of the state to continue to support the Nyako’s government to enable it achieve its desired objectives.
