Wife claims bankruptcy over husband’s political ambition
A business woman, Chief Toun Filani, has claimed that her husband, Chief Ishola Filani, a governorship aspirant in Ekiti state, drove her into bankruptcy because of his political ambition.
Toun made the allegation before an Ikeja High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, urging it to dissolve the 11- year old marriage to Filani on grounds of abandonment.
She is also seeking compensation from her estranged husband, either in cash or in kind, claiming that she was responsible for her husband’s steady rise in politics.
Toun said that it was due to her request that Chief Niyi Adebayo, a former governor in Ekiti state, appointed Filani as a director in Wema Bank for two years and later chairman of the bank.
She said that this was a gesture by the governor to improve the family’s dwindling financial resources after she had spent so much on her husband’s political ambition.
Filani, who was present in court, requested the court to grant a long adjournment to enable him study court procedure.
Justice Elfreda Williams-Dawodu granted his request and fixed the cross-examination of the petitioner for September 23 and October 13.
