Water scarcity: Gusau residents
commend FG
Gusau residents have commended the federal government for the
release of N2.4 billion for the rehabilitation of the Gusau dam,
which collapsed in November last year.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minister of
State for Environment, Alhaji Ikra Bilbis, announced the release
of the funds on Monday in Mada.
A cross-section of the people, who spoke to NAN on the issue
expressed gratitude to the federal government for the gesture.
According to them, President Olusegun Obasanjo deserved
commendation for his decision to intervene in the perennial
water scarcity in Gusau.
They urged the government to award the contract to a reputable
contractor, who would execute the work on time and according to
specification.
It is really a commendable effort for the federal government to
have released the money at this critical time when water has
become gold in Gusau, one of the residents said.
Meanwhile, the situation had made many residents in the state
capital to resort to stream water even as water vendors
increased their price by about 150 per cent.
